The attractiveness of the RM1.3 billion Utropolis Glenmarie in Shah Alam, Selangor has increased with the opening of the new 229 key midscale Mercure Kuala Lumpur Glenmarie managed by Accor.

The 8.4-hectare Utropolis Glenmarie is the first integrated development by Paramount Corp Bhd’s subsidiary, Paramount Property. The KDU University College flagship campus serves as the centrepiece of the complex, which also includes residential, commercial, and hotel components.

Completing the self-sustained offering of this development is Utropolis Marketplace, Paramount Property’s first retail project. This 120,000-sq ft retail space houses food and beverage, retail, and entertainment outlets.

A contract to operate the hotel was signed by Super Ace Resources Sdn Bhd, a Paramount subsidiary, and Accor in April 2017.

The 13-story hotel reportedly cost about RM75 million to develop and was earmarked to complete in 2019.

On November 15, 2021, a soft opening for the hotel was held.

Mercure Kuala Lumpur Glenmarie’s general manager, Ramesh Singh Sappel, is confident the establishment will succeed given its favourable location and the fact that it is the first international business hotel in the Glenmarie region.

“Despite the numerous restrictions imposed by Malaysia’s movement control orders, I am proud to say that we are now a fully functioning four-star hotel with 229 stylishly designed rooms, an urban pool lounge with a stunning view, and facilities to host any professional and personal events.

“We are not out of the woods yet, but I am sure we can get there,” he said during the hotel’s opening last week.

The hotel is accessible to six major highways in Klang Valley, namely Federal Highway, NKVE, Guthrie Corridor Expressway, Elite Highway, NPE, and LDP.
