KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 24): Taman Bukit Maluri and Bandar Menjalara residents will be assisted by Segambut MCA to convert their land titles from leasehold to freehold.

Segambut MCA chairman Datuk Daniel Ling urged those who wanted to convert their titles from leasehold to freehold to see him for help, The Star reported yesterday.

“In March, Kuala Lumpur High Court had granted approval for the conversion of 24 houses in Taman Bukit Maluri built on Edinburgh Rubber Estate land to freehold,” Ling told the daily after a meeting with the affected residents in Kepong.

“More than 30 people had approached me to apply for the conversion and I believe there are more who want to do so,” he said.

According to the daily’s report, about 3,000 property owners in Taman Bukit Maluri and Bandar Menjalara possess leasehold titles for their properties that were previously freehold land.

The land was owned by Edinburgh Rubber Estates but the status was converted to leasehold when it was sold to a developer.

Taman Bukit Maluri resident Jenny Ng told the daily that owners in Taman Cuepacs in Segambut had faced a similar problem but they managed to convert their status back to freehold.

“We approached Segambut MCA chairman Datuk Daniel Ling and he agreed to help.

“We hope this can be resolved quickly as it will also increase the value of our properties,” said Ng
