TEMERLOH (Aug 23): The Housing and Local Government Ministry plans to build 500 units of terrace homes under the People’s Housing Project (PPR) in Jenderak, Kuala Krau, here.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican (pictured) said this was to assist the B40 group to own a house and in complying with the new PPR direction towards achieving Malaysia’s liveable agenda.

“This project is an opportunity for the group to not only have a house to rent out but to own it,” he said at a news conference after the official opening of the Kuala Krau Fire and Rescue Station by Pahang Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, here, today.

Also present was Deputy Home Minister 1, Datuk Seri Dr Ismail Mohamed Said, who is also Kuala Krau Member of Parliament, and Malaysia Fire and Rescue Department director-general, Datuk Seri Mohammad Hamdan Wahid.

Reezal Merican said the housing project homes would be 750 sq ft in size each and the sale price at RM42,000 while also taking into consideration Internet access elements such as fibre to the home (FTTH).

He said the Cabinet had also agreed to more PPR projects in a number of states after this, without involving the transfer of land from the state government to the Federal Lands Commissioner to, among others, speed up the construction process.

Earlier in his speech, Rizal Merican said the Kuala Krau Fire and Rescue Station project on a two-hectare site and costing almost RM3 million, started on Nov 25, 2019 and was completed last April 16. Its facilities include an administrative office, logistics store and a covered garage.

“This brings the total number of fire and rescue stations in Pahang to 28 for faster and more efficient response to the emergency calls received.

“This latest station is a relief for the local residents as previously, they had to depend on the Temerloh, Jengka and Jerantut stations which are about 40 km from here,” he added.

Meanwhile, Wan Rosdy said a number of fire and rescue stations were under construction and would be built in Pahang including in Sungai Lembing (Kuantan), Benta (Lipis) and Lanchang (Temerloh).

“The locations have been identified and we are waiting for the next process. Many requests for a station have been received and we will be looking at each based on priority,” he said.
