While wellness real estate was already gaining traction before 2020, the global Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of health and further driven people to seek out communities and homes purpose-built to provide them with mental and physical wellbeing.

The non-profit Global Wellness Institute (GWI) noted in a study that the Wellness real estate market was worth $225 billion in 2019 and saw explosive growth during the pandemic, reaching $275 billion in 2020.

The study analysed the global market for wellness lifestyle real estate and communities, delving into the central role that the built environment plays in driving health and wellbeing.

The report also revealed that the pandemic created a major shift in the construction and real estate industry toward wellness, and in 2020, wellness real estate continued to grow by over 22%, despite a 2.5% shrinkage in the overall construction industry.
