Bandar IOI Segamat will see a new hospital being built following the inking of an agreement between the developer, IOI Properties Group (IOIPG), and Oriental Medical Segamat (OMS) for the sale of 4.84-acre freehold land located within the township.

OMS is a subsidiary of Melaka Straits Medical Centre Sdn Bhd which is majority owned by Oriental Holdings Bhd (OHB).The 607-acre Bandar IOI Segamat is an integrated township with a gross development value of RM1.3 billion. It includes the North Precinct as well as the East Precinct.

The township development started in 1995 with the East Precinct, which is currently home to terraced houses, semi-detached homes, bungalows, shop offices and more.

OMS is purchasing the land situated within the East Precinct to eventually extend OHB’s network of healthcare services from Klebang, Melaka, to Segamat, Johor,

The hospital in Bandar IOI Segamat will be OHB’s second hospital venture to complement its flagship hospital, Oriental Melaka Straits Medical Centre at Klebang.

Dr. Tan Hui Ling, managing director of OMS and Oriental Melaka Straits Medical Centre said Bandar IOI Segamat was selected because the company sees a lot of potential for future expansion in this area.

“It is an ideal strategic location, with good accessibility to surrounding catchment areas of Segamat District. I remember I first visited this Bandar IOI Segamat land in February 2020 just before the Covid pandemic, and recently again in June 2022. My gut feelings have only become stronger that this place will flourish,” he said in a statement yesterday issued by IOIPG.

According to IOIPG’s chief executive officer Datuk Voon Tin Yow, Bandar IOI Segamat offers OMS a strategic and convenient position because it is close to the town centre and takes use of Segamat District’s accessibility to the federal and state road networks,

Segamat District is home to mature residential zones with an estimated population of 185,000 people who are served by current services and amenities, he said.

“The addition of a new medical centre in Bandar IOI Segamat unlocks the potential of this integrated development. It will provide connectivity and open doors for other businesses to thrive not only within our development but in surrounding communities within the district as well.

The East Precinct, when completed by the end of 2023, would offer 5,000 housing units to serve a population of about 25,000 people. It is planned to be a vibrant residential and commercial area.

IOIPG has started its expansion into the 112-acre North Precinct as the East Precinct is nearing completion. The North Precinct is expected to feature 1,200 more residential and business units once it is fully constructed.
