Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob will chair the council, which will comprise 15 implementing agencies as well as state governments.

“The proposal (to reactivate MPMMN) has been agreed upon by the Cabinet,” said Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican following a visit to the incinerator plant within Belanga Pecah and PPR Anggerik Lestari.

“Besides the ministry, we also have PR1MA (PR1MA Corporation Malaysia); SPNB (Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad); PPAM (Malaysian Civil Servants’ Housing); PPR (People’s Housing Project) as well as the agencies under the Rural Development Ministry and the Federal Territories Ministry as implementing agencies,” he said as quoted by Bernama.

MPMMN will monitor the construction of affordable housing projects, while ensuring that the government’s goal of building 500,000 affordable homes by 2025 will be achieved.

On PPR projects under the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), Reezal Merican shared that 16 such projects involving 16,000 units were proposed to be constructed under 12MP.

“We plan to build 3,000 units of houses every year but it all depends on the country’s fiscal situation,” he said.

Meanwhile, he revealed that the incinerator plant in Belanga Pecah will be operational next month, ensuring that solid waste management within the area are done effectively.

Notably, the plant underwent repairs and the installation of new technology and components.

The minister said the plant can accommodate up to 100 metric tonnes of solid waste daily, reducing dependence on existing landfills within the resort island.

“The incinerator is equipped with leachate treatment plant (LTP) and also complies with the regulation not to emit dioxins and furans based on the standards set by the Department of Environment,” said Reezal Merican.
