Iconic Penang Sdn Bhd (Iconic Group) has soft launched Iconic Marjorie Hotel, a Marriott International Tribute Portfolio Hotel brand, in Sungai Nibong, Bayan Lepas on Dec 28, 2024. It was developed at a cost of RM180 million and is the first hotel in Penang with the Green Building Index (GBI) rating.
Iconic Worldwide Bhd and Iconic Group chairman Datuk Seri Tan Kean Tet said in a statement, “The soft opening of the Iconic Marjorie Hotel represents a significant milestone for Iconic Group. We have worked with Marriott International to create a hotel that will advance Penang’s status as a world-class destination for tourists and investors. This hotel will be more than a luxury destination; it will be a celebration of Penang’s rich heritage and a testament to our commitment to delivering excellence in real estate and hospitality.”
The five-star hotel offers 298 rooms and was designed in collaboration with Hirsch Bedner Associates, incorporating Baba-Nyonya-inspired aesthetics. Its eco-conscious features include energy-efficient systems and the use of sustainable materials.
Marriott International market vice-president for Malaysia, George Varughese remarked, “With its distinctive design, inspired by local culture and heritage, Iconic Marjorie Hotel perfectly embodies the spirit of Tribute Portfolio — a celebration of individuality and connection. It represents our vision of combining global expertise with local authenticity to create destinations that resonate deeply with travellers”.
Iconic Marjorie Hotel is strategically located next to Iconic Regency, a 42-storey serviced residence by Iconic Group that was also launched on the same day. Both properties are positioned to meet the demands of expatriates, business executives and tourists, with close proximity to the Bayan Lepas Free Trade Zone and Penang International Airport.
