Tropicana Corporation Berhad has donated 0.19 hectares (ha) of land to the Langkawi state government to upgrade the existing Pantai Kok Rest and Recreation (R&R) facility.

The renovation work, which includes expanding the centre’s existing facilities from five to eight commercial lots, is expected to be completed in the third quarter of this year.

The renovated building will also have improved washroom, surau, and carpark amenities, as well as over 70 parking bays for cars, motorcycles, and bicycles.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the new R&R centre was held today at Langkawi, officiated by Kedah Speaker and State Assemblyman of Air Hangat, Datuk Juhari Bulat.

Tropicana said in a statement that the upgrading of the R&R centre is a collaboration with the Langkawi state government, and it will cost RM2.5 million.

Its executive director for projects, Khoo Thian Shyang, said that the groundbreaking marked another milestone for the company, demonstrating its commitment to developing a sustainable and vibrant township in Langkawi.

The Pantai Kok R&R centre complements Tropicana’s upcoming Pantai Kok project, a 18.06ha integrated mixed development, which is part of the developer’s 51.75ha landbank in Langkawi, with parcels in Tanjung Rhu, Pulau Rebak Kecil, and Bukit Mali.

Its newest Tropicana Cenang homes feature modern seaview serviced suites spread across 2.14ha on the bustling Pantai Cenang beachfront.

“The Pantai Kok R&R centre stands at the threshold of Tropicana’s upcoming development in the area, and we are proud to be the partner of Majlis Perbandaran Langkawi Bandaraya Pelancongan as we work hand-in-hand to uplift the community,” he said.

According to Khoo, this aligns with the Tropicana Foundation’s core focus of Redefining the Art of Caring.

Tropicana’s approach to social dimensions is spearheaded by the Tropicana Foundation, in keeping with the company’s emphasis on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles.

The Foundation, which was founded in 2011, provides outreach programmes to underserved segments of society as well as addresses environmental issues.

Tropicana Foundation has donated over RM23 million to various charitable causes since its inception.
